Question: Do you have a suggested diet for runners? Also, what is a good energy snack to eat before a run?

Answer: Like anyone else, runners should avoid unhealthy, saturated fats, and believe it or not, there is such thing as too much carbohydrate. Instead, focus on a balanced diet that contains "good" fats from fish, avacodos, nuts, and olive oil. These help balance the hdl/ldl levels in your cholesterol. Eat lean proteins from poultry, lean red meats, soy, and again fish. Get your carbohydrates from complex sources such as grains and legumes, and eat plenty of fruit. Also, stay hydrated-drink plenty of water and sports drinks. Before a run, you may eat a small snack like one of the energy bars available. Try to find one that has a decent abount of protein, so as not to spike your blood sugar. You can also improvise: a slice of bread with peanutbutter and honey would do just fine.
