Question: I am coming back from a back injury that prevented me from running for about three weeks. how do you recommend working back to my previous fitness level?

Answer: Slowly and patiently. Start back with approx. 20 - 25% of your pre-injury mileage for two weeks, then to 40 - 45% for a week or two, then to 60 - 65% for a week or two, then to 80 - 85% for a week or two, then finally return to form. Err on the conservative side. Get your doc's buy-in to working out, and don't be afraid to cross-train instead, for the lack of impact.
